Editor Max Width not being applied automatically

Each time I reopen a new editing session for a page, the page editing area is set to the very small wordpress default width, even though I have previously set it to be Large. If I open the Editor Max Width dialog, the previous selection (Large, etc.) is still selected, but I must click it again to apply the setting to the editing area.

I have tried changing my ‘Small’ size to be the same as my ‘Large’ size, but it doesn’t help since the setting is always initially wordpress’s default (not Small or Large).
