I have a brand new install of WP and it’s not saving any editor preferences. Every time I launch either the FSE editor or the page editor I’m shown the “Welcome to the block editor” onboarding dialogue. I also see the “Editing a page” and the “Welcome to styles” dialogues. It’s also not saving the preferences, such as “always open list view” and “enable pre-publish checks”, nor turning off Fullscreen mode.

It’s not a plugin issue as I have turned them all off, nor is it a theme issue as I’ve switched to the default 2025 theme.

Anyone got any bright ideas? It’s driving me nuts!!!!

    Cheers

  • Hey @petervandoorn,
As I understand your query try to check with switch the theme like Twenty Twenty-Four,Twenty Twenty-Three etc. I think maybe you are facing server side issue or browser issue. I hope theme switching maybe helpful.

Hi @ravindra107 – thanks for the thought, but as I said I have already tried switching to the default 2025 theme.

Changing browsers doesn’t make a difference either.

I can’t see any rows in the db in either the options or the usermeta tables that might be where these settings are stored (but then I suppose if they’re not being stored then there won’t be any rows anyway!)

I’ve never had this issue on any other sites before, so it is very purplexing!

    Hey @petervandoorn,
Could you please provide a screenshot? This will help me understand the exact issue you are facing and the type of error you are encountering.

Thanks @hankkutw I didn’t know about that plugin. That’ll be helpful in the future I’m sure.

I’ve actually had some time now to do some digging and I’ve discovered that the {$wpdb->prefix}_persisted_preferences row was missing from the usermeta table. Adding that and copying the contents from another, similar, site totally fixed the problem.
