In order to view all the files, it is best to SSH to the server or download the files via FTP. You can also consider using cPanel’s FileManager (if you are on a cPanel). Check with your hosting provider. They will be able to assist further : )
@kimbert It isn’t advised that you make any modifications to PHP files using the WP editor, it can’t handle errors and you can very easily lock yourself out of your Dashboard which is another problem in itself.
As advised by zdravkob, download your theme files using FTP or your the File Manager software provided to you by your host. You can then safely modify any file you like using a standard text editor (such as notepad), reupload the modified files overwriting the originals to see your changes take effect.
Always have a back-up too!

thank you @sdravkob and @themeumo
I am not looking to modify my files on my dashboard, I would like to see them.
At the moment I can only see the editor for CSS
I find this strange because there was a possibility to see all the files before and something has changed.
Do you know if files and directories dates change when you load them up on a sftp?
All of my dates for the wp are marked by the date I have moved them to my site via ftp
on my distant server but the original dates of modification are all there on my local site.
Are the dates on your local site the same as the dates on your distant host?
