    Hello,

    I hope all is well.

I have just received an alert in my WordPress admin which is listed below:

The rate limit for alert emails of 1 alert(s) per hour from Wordfence has been reached. No alerts will be sent for the remainder of the hour.

This alert has come after the most recent update to version 8.1.0. But when I go to change the entry to another number I do not have that option.

    Could you help? Thank you.

    Regards,
    Robert

    Hi @techspecx,

Can I just double-check that you’re able to see the following: Wordfence > All Options > Email Alert Preferences > Maximum email alerts to send per hour. I’ve just double-checked on an updated version and I still have that option, although my previous default of 0 (unlimited) was still set.

    Many thanks,
    Peter.

    Hello Peter,

Thank you for your replay. I have a screenshot of what I see and I have no way of changing it.

Hi @techspecx, thanks for the screenshot.

Could you check if Update interval in seconds under General Wordfence Options also doesn’t have a textbox, and what its value is? The default should be 2 if you haven’t changed it. If that option is also 1 and/or missing a text box, there may be something wrong with your wfconfig table. Alternatively, there might be another plugin/theme causing a conflict. If some JavaScript or CSS is breaking our text fields, you can test this by having Wordfence as your only enabled plugin (often switching to a default theme like Twenty Twenty-Five at the same time) and visiting the page again.

Let us know what you find out,
    Peter.

    Hello Peter,

Yes the update in seconds is set to 2. But there is no text box it is just there. Nothing has changed on my side and this has never happened before. My web site just automatically updated Wordfence which I have been doing for years. Do you rhink we should uninstall and reinstall?

    Hi @techspecx,

Have you tried the other step of running Wordfence as the only other plugin temporarily with a default theme? You’ll be able to identify the cause by reenabling your other plugins and theme one-by-one, testing in between, and see which item causes it to reoccur.

If that doesn’t fix it, you may need to repair wfconfig in your database. The name may differ slightly if you’re using prefixes like wpxy_wfconfig If you’re running PHPMyAdmin, there’s a way of doing this highlighted here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/4357270/table-is-marked-as-crashed-and-should-be-repaired

Let us know how you get on,
    Peter.

    Hi Peter,

    Hi Peter,

This is a live production website, so disabling plugins and switching to a temporary template could cause issues. I may disable a plugin I know I have had an issue with lately and see if that helps but I cannot disable all of the.

I monitor my database daily, but I just performed another check, repair, and optimization. I’ll keep an eye out to see if that message appears again. Thanks for sharing the link!

    Hello Peter,

All those options I had to repair that issue did not work so I just uninstalled and reinstalled wordfence and now I see that I have a 5 in Maximum email alerts to send per hour and Update interval in seconds is set to 2. That should be good to go. I still do not have the option to set those numbers but if these are good numbers then I am happy.

Thank you again for your tech support and have a great day!

Hi @techspecx, thanks for letting me know.

Yes, the new default for new installations is 5, and the previous default was 0 (unlimited). I’m glad that’s reset the number for you to a higher value, but if you do get an opportunity to put your site in maintenance mode briefly any time in the near future to test plugin combinations, you may find a conflict is the reason for the input boxes being missing.

    Thanks again,
    Peter.
