Sorry that you ran into issues here.
First, the email issue is more likely in our experience to be a configuration issue with the server you’re running on as opposed to a bug here. You can determine more about the delivery problems by following the steps outlined in this article here: http://awpcp.com/forum/faq/problems-with-email-and-awpcp/
You can also switch to SMTP under Directory Admin->Manage Options, Email tab (at the bottom) and see if the emails deliver as well.
Try those and report back if you can’t get it to work.
