Emails getting missed
-
We have not had any problems until recently, but now we are having many of the emails not send, but not even log anything.
We have quite a few orders on woocommerce that customers are not getting confirmation emails so ordering again and then we have to refund them.
It seems to be skipping quite a lot of emails this last fortnight.
We cannot see any errors, or warnings its like the order never existed.
What do we need to do?
Thanks

Hi Barry,
Please could you share your Post SMTP diagnostics log with us? Just paste it in your reply here. That will be a big help in helping us to pin down a possible issue.
Kind Regards,
TimHi Tim

Thanks for the log. That all looks fairly normal. Please could you have a look in the email log and see what error is being recorded for failed emails?
Kind Regards,
TimHi Tim,
There is no failed emails being logged in POST SMTP. Do you mean look at the server log files?
That is what I find strange, in the past when emails have failed to send it has logged them, but this time it has skipped them completely, and not logged anythig in POST SMTP.
It is not just once, it has happened a few times over the last few days. For example a customer placed an order with order number 14075 and that sent an email, then the next order was 14081 and that never sent an email and we have the order but no record of any emails being sent?
This is what is puzzling us.
Thanks
barryHi Barry,
That is very unusual – if an email send has been attempted in any way, Post SMTP almost always records this. I can’t see any plugins that are likely to cause a conflict, but it’s a possbility.
I presume you can’t think of any changes you made to the site around the same time as this issue cropped up?
If you send a test mail from Post SMTP, is it always logged and sent? It’s worth trying that too.
Kind Regards,
TimNo changes made, it just suddenly started happening mostly yesterday and today. Not logging emails that are generated by sales in woocommerce.
I did some test emails and they send fine.
I might try sending a test to the emails that failed. The thing is when an order is placed, the customer gets an email and we get an email but this is not happening, neither get anything, so the customer thinks there order has not been placed and do it again. Then we have to refund them. We only know about the order when we check the orders on woocommerce.
I checked the log files and it skips through the orders as earlier stated. So no record is shown anywhere.
It is not as if we are sending lots as we use gmail as the delivery.
Even if gmail block it in the past we had to reset that, but it still logged it as a failed attempt in POST SMTP.
I am at a loss here but it is causing problems.
Hi @zimmo,
Yep, totally understand that – frustrating! It’s interesting that it’s only happening in WooCommerce too. I presume things like contact forms are all working fine?
I agree that it is unlikely to be Gmail at fault, it should indeed still appear in the email log as you said.
All other plugins and WP core up-to-date?
Kind Regards,
TimHi @zimmo,
The only other thing I can suggest to try at this stage, would be under
Post SMTP > Post SMTP > Show All Settingsand then changeMailer TypefromPostSMTPtoPHPMailer. I don’t think that will solve it, but it is worth ruling out.Kind Regards,
TimJust to let you know:
i just had the same problem today. But not with WooCommerce emails but from https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/ameliabooking/ – paid Version.
The booking is saved in the Database / Event from WP Amelia, but no Mail was send to the customer and also not the copy we get… Even the Conversion in Google Analytics was triggered correct.
BUT no error / mention of the Booking in Post SMTP Log.
Yesterday the Mails got send for 2 Bookings and also when i just tested a booking the Mails got send also the Post SMTP Test is successfull and mail from Elementor Contatc Forms.
Strange.
