I have verified there is a bug.
Basically, whatever email address is placed in the “Bounce” section of Mailpoet, is used as the sender. This was tested on a fresh install of WordPress and only mailpoet installed with the default theme.
So, lets say the domain is mymail.com, and in bounce you add “[email protected]”, it will use this email address as the sender, and ignore any settings or configurations.
NOTE: This is when using local sending. If WP SMTP is installed and you use SMTP, it did not fix the issue. The “bounce” overwrites whatever the sender data is there as well.
This seems…serious. It can be replicated in the new version, and the previous version so far.
I am unsure what happens if you are using a sending service, but, if your emails are not being sent, I would check the bounce option in settings.
Hi there @openedge1,
Thanks for reaching out!
I’d like to make sure I understand the issue you are experiencing. Can you please confirm these are the steps I need to perform to reproduce this bug:
– Set an email of your domain (e.g. [email protected]) as the From address in MailPoet > Settings > Default Sender > From as per these instructions.
– Add an email such as [email protected] to the bounce list
– Send a newsletter and the from address will show as [email protected].
Is that it? Please confirm so we can run some tests on our end.
Hello,
This is correct. And if we remove the bounce email address, it works again. This happens with the current and previous versions.
We did a bare install of WordPress, use local sending, and no other plugin, theme, etc.

Can you please confirm you’re referring to a newsletter sent from the MailPoet plugin, and not a transactional email sent from your website?
Also, as I understand, you’re sending emails using your own sending method, right?
Hello,
This has been fixed in the latest version – 3.77.0, which was released 1 day ago.
Looks like you guys found the issue and repaired it. (But, if you still want to see the issue, let me know. But, it had been broken for the two previous versions…yuck)
Just an update: Version 3.77.1 has broken this again. I have reported this issue to your support. But, we’re back to whatever email address is in bounce becomes the sender of the email.
