    Hi,

Thanks for giving us a magic security plugin for free (I know there is a premium version, but the free version alone is also already good enough). Just one thing I’m a bit scared about:

I am using the free version, and if my phone is lost or bites the dust, is there a way for me to login the site? I know the premium version provides some codes for the purpose. But what if the scenario happens with the free version?

I see you provide two different private keys in the plugin settings:
    1. Private key (base 32 – used by Google Authenticator and Authy): *****************
    2. Private key: *****************

Could you please explain how and when these two codes should be used.

Can we use either or both of them for emergency purpose (losing access to the phone or so)? If yes, please explain.

    Many thanks.

    Hi,

Concerning what to do if you lose your phone, please see the relevant question in the FAQs: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/two-factor-authentication/#faq . Personally I also always set up TFA in two separate devices, so that if one is lost/stolen, I’ve still got the other.

The textual private keys are used for setting up on a device that can’t scan the QR code. i.e. If you TFA app is on a device without a camera. It’s ultimately the same information that is encoded in the QR code.

    David
