I am facing the same issue, of less number of URLs than expected, in the different sitemap URLs.
1. Category Sitemap (https://thriveworks.com/category-sitemap.xml)
It is only showing 28 category URLs, instead of 64 URLs.
2. Authors sitemap (https://thriveworks.com/authors-sitemap.xml)
18 /expert/ pages are missing in this sitemap.
I have checked all the configuration settings and everything looks fine there and also checked for the excluded categories settings as well and no categiry has been selected in the excluded categories list.
When I am tring to add another test category with name abc, it is appearing in the category sitemap but a new category with name indigo, is not being displayed in the category sitemap.
We’ve finally identified the issue. The cause is our check for taxonomies before others were added. This issue will finally be resolved in the next release.
