Empty Minify cache leaves _old files – growing folder

    On the minify page, clicking the Empty Cache button, or purge all cache removes current cache files but leave files named _old. The numbers of these files grows so over time many MB of files are there with old dates.
    What function do these _old file have, and should they be deleted when the cache is purged or emptied.
    Can these be deleted manually in cpanel?
    This leads to backup issues with masses of unnecessary data, can this be fixed please?
