Encoded Characters in Marker Tooltips

In some of my map marker names, I use apostrophes and ampersands. When I hover over the markers on the map, they are showing up as weird codes, as in –

Instead of:
Brown’s Garage

I get:
Brown{AMPERSAND POUND-SIGN 039 SEMICOLON}s Garage

Sorry but I can’t figure out how to type the code in without the forum converting it back into an apostrophe!

It looks fine in the window that pops up if I CLICK the marker. It’s only the tooltip that’s problematic.

Any ideas what to do?
