encryption for client area?

Hello, sorry if this may sound dumb but I own a car lot/lending company the website is microlendingservicing.com and I setup a client area so they can check on there account, get a copy of there contract and also post there payment on there along with other basic stuff.
The question I have is there a good way to add an encryption to the data part of it or no? if not then what I can do is just zip the files with a password and upload them like that and call it good (password being there SS or something like that)…anyway let me know what you think.
Also I was looking at how to put in a forum and or a way they can reply to a post on there to ask for an update or over all question? But I can always put that on another page and go that way….on the page..is there a way to setup a template?
