Some of the fields shown on the Add Entry page don’t match Connections > Template > Customize > Display

For instance, I have Title, Department, IM, Dates, Notes unchecked in Customize, but they are on the Entry page. I have Bio and To Top checked, but they are not on the Entry page. I have changed options & re-saved several times.

Again I think this occurred after an update.

WP 4.5.3, Connections 8.5.18, Default Entry Card 3.0

I apologize, but I do not fully understand the issue. It sounds like you describing two issues??? I’ll do my best to give you a thorough answer.

The Template Customizer is to customize the template, it does not affect the admin add/edit page.

    • On the add/edit admin page you would use the Screen Options tab in the upper right of the screen.
    • Using the Screen Options, you will be able to turn off entire fieldsets, but not individual specific fields. For example, you will be able to turn off IM, Dates and Note but you will not be able to turn off Title and Department.
    • If you are not seeing the Bio field on the add/edit entry admin page then it is very likely that you inadvertently turned it off in the Screen Options.
    • The add/edit admin page does not have a return to top.

As mentioned the Template Customizer is used to customize the template.

    • The first thing I would like for you to do is ensure the Single Template option is disabled. This is found on the Connections : Settings admin page under the Display tab in the Single Entry section.
    • Navigate to the Connections : Templates admin page. Ensure the Default Entry Card template is activated under the All template type.
    • Click the Customize button for the Default Entry Card template. The page will reload with the Customizer on the left and a preview on the right. Turn off/on the fields you wish to be displayed. Now, click an entry name in the preview. Any entry name will do. The preview will reload and now you will be able to customize the single entry view. Turn off/on the fields you wish to be displayed in this view. Click the Save and Publish button.

Hope that helps, let me know.

Got it. Several points of PEBKAC (problem exists between keyboard & chair) re Customizer vs Screen Options vs front end display.

However there is one issue remaining. I have selected logo to display. It shows on the category page:
    http://northsoundbusinessnetwork.com/businesses/business-services/

but does not on the entry page:

When in the Template Customizer, click an entry name in the preview. Any entry name will do. The preview will reload and now you will be able to customize the single entry view. In the Template Customizer, navigate to the Image panel choose you image type to be displayed.

A key point to keep in mind the Customizer settings for the card view are separate from the single entry view. This allows you to configure both views independently from each other giving you really good flexibility.

Hope that makes sense! Let me know.

Unfortunately my main directory page is direct coded URL’s for each category, and each of the children is a page with a category shortcode. I did this for better SEO control of page content.

So my Preview is my main category page, not card view, and if I click a URL it closes the Customize & Preview.

I tried to solve this by temporarily adding a page with just the Connections short code so I could edit both card & entry view. That worked but when I switched back to the Business page the card page was correct but the changed didn’t apply to the entry.

Are you using a type of page caching? If you, try flushing it.

The settings applied to the template are global so they will affect instances of the template so creating a temp page with the [connections] shortcode with it set as the directory home page should have worked.

Solved. I made the changes to the temp connections entry page, but forgot to save 🙁

Sorry, and thanx for the great plugin & support.
