After literally years of PowerPress “just working”, today I was making a post and the “Podcast Episode” box that shows up below the post disappeared. It is just gone.

I’ve done some searching and a common solution I see is marking a Podcast Post Type, which I’ve never done and I’m worried will affect the more than 100 episodes I have out there. I’d rather not screw up my feeds as I heavily use Category Podcasting as well…

So did a recent update or something reset a setting somewhere possibly? I think I remember one time where the podcast episode showed up in the right hand column…but I already looked that up and down and didn’t see it there yet. Help!!!

I realized a few pics might help. Here’s a post and you can see that the “Podcast Episode” entry box is not below it as it has been. (BTW, I have a number of sites running PowerPress and for some reason only this site, my most active, has the problem.

The other pic shows quite clearly that in preferences that the Podcast Episode is still checked off, but I don’t get to see it anymore.

Okay. That didn’t work. Try this:

    Hi @pageantcast,

Check the right-hand sidebar in your editor. You may find it at the bottom of the stack. If you do, you can click the large up arrow and that should place it back under the editing window.

It is not at the bottom of the stack. I know what you are talking about because that happened once, but that is not the case now. What throws me is I literally did one about 4 days ago without a problem and my other sites still show the Podcast Episode entry box.

If you’re doing any advanced user-role management with a plugin outside of PowerPress, check settings for that plugin and make sure access to the Podcast Episode hasn’t been revoked.

Do you still see the Podcast Episode box under the main post editor for posts that are already published? Or has it disappeared for those posts, too? If so, there may be a conflict happening within your WordPress installation. Make sure core WordPress, all plugins, and your WordPress theme are up to date. Hi, Shawn.

I don’t really any non-traditional user role management; just what comes built in on Word Press. All themes, plugins and WP itself are up to date.

I have removed (deactivated and deleted) all unused plugins to skinny down a little. Process of wiping out themes unused as well.

The Podcast Episode box is missing on new posts AND old, already published posts. That’s what is really freaking me out. However, I’ve gone to the actual posts and the player is still there, etc. So really odd.

I clicked on your link and it gave me an error message. Not sure what’s going on there.

In an above screenshot, it shows the toggle switch is on for the Podcast Episode box. If you turn it off, completely back out of the post editor, go back to the post editor, and turn the toggle switch back on, does that help?

You can also try deactivating, deleting, reinstalling, and reactivating PowerPress. Doing so shouldn’t lose any PowerPress settings, as the settings are stored in the WordPress database.

I will try those and report back. I have a lot of settings in there so your assurance I can delete and reinstall makes me feel a heck of a lot better because I thought I might have to go there.

Okay. Just did them. Here is the result:

    This did nothing.

    Deactivated. Checked post. Still gone.

Deleted. Checked post. Obviously still gone.

Reinstalled. Checked post. Not there yet.

    Reactivated. Checked post. Not there.

Toggled the Podcast Episode back on. Not there. Also toggled on Custom Fields on. Still not there.

So nothing changed after all of that. I cleared cache not too long ago, but if I need to between delete and install I can try that. Thoughts?

Could this be related to a theme? I’m afraid to switch back and forth and having to reset up. There are a lot of customizations on my current theme. Is it worth pursuing?

    Thread Starter pageantcast

    (@pageantcast)

Okay. I went to one of my sites that is still working and tried the same theme I have working there (2014). On this site, it did not change at all. Still no episode box. So that was a bust.

Adding this to the list of things troubleshot that didn’t work.

I accessed the website on Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome. Same result on each.

Cleared my cache and cookies on both devices. Still doesn’t work on this site…and this just started a few days ago (but I’m getting anxious because a new show is coming out soon.)

By the way, the sites that are working and not working are all hosted on Bluehost, so that is a common denominator as well that isn’t the issue. All running WordPress 6.8.3 as well.

I am using plugin version 11.13.12 on the site that isn’t working and the one that is.

I really am trying everything I can think of, but I haven’t found the issue yet. Any ideas are being entertained. Since I have some sites where there is no issue, this is doubly frustrating.

Today I tried incognito browsing and turning off all ad blockers. Also did not work.

We haven’t had any reports of other users experiencing this issue, so it’s likely something specific to your WordPress site installation. Temporarily witching between your theme and one of the stock themes (the ones named after years like 2024, 2023, etc.) is a good way to test if the theme is causing a conflict. If you’re using the Block editor, temporarily switch to the Classic editor and see if the Podcast Episode box returns. I know it was brought up before, but doublecheck the post editor sidebar and make sure the Episode box wasn’t accidentally moved to the side.
