• hello,
I have 2 wordpress sites hosted with inmotion hosting and I have having the same issue with both of them.

When I try to log in, on a desktop/laptop via multiple browsers (it all works fine on my android phone) I get the following error:

    “Error 406 – Not Acceptable
Generally a 406 error is caused because a request has been blocked by Mod Security. If you believe that your request has been blocked by mistake please contact the web site owner.”

I reached out to the hosting and they were able to pull the full error but were no further help:

    [Sun Aug 01 16:06:37.427986 2021] [:error] [pid 797269:tid 47213671229184] [client ] [client ] ModSecurity: Access denied with code 406 (phase 2). Operator EQ matched 0 at REQUEST_HEADERS. [file "/etc/apache2/conf.d/modsec_vendor_configs/IMH/rules/BASE_RULES.conf"] [line "17"] [id "96012"] [msg "POST request must have a Content-Length header"] [severity "WARNING"] [tag "PROTOCOL_VIOLATION/EVASION"] [hostname "WEBSITE.org"] [uri "/wp-login.php"] [unique_id "YQb-zbBFiYA200jePUYr_wAC1QY"], referer: https://WEBSITE.org/wp-login.php

Not sure what is causing this. I have also tried disabling mod security, when I try to login after that, When I hit the log in button, the fields go blank and nothing else happens.

Thank you in advance for any help you might have.

Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

I have disabled all plugins and themes, no effect. I am thinking that the issue is with the hosting company as both of my hosted sites have the same issue. The hosting company is not being helpful though.
