Same here, after Update to 1.8.9 the plugin breaks the page, I get a 500 error. When deactivating the plugin, everything goes fine (except translations, of course).
I solved the problem with re-saving the Permalinks. See here: https://translatepress.com/docs/troubleshooting/

Hi Stefannheller,
Can you please visit TranslatePress -> Settings -> Advanced
Then, enable these features 1 by 1 in this order and try to see if it makes a difference. Disable them back if it makes no difference. Also please disable or clear the cache if you have any.
1. Fix spaces between HTML attributes
2. Fix broken HTML
3. Fix missing dynamic content
4. Disable dynamic translation
If none of the above options works, could you revert to v.1.8.8 of the TranslatePress and see if the error is gone? In this way, we can be sure if it is from the actual update. In this situation, detailed investigations will be required on your website, that’s why I suggest opening a ticket on our website support channel.
Best Regards,
I have tried everything you said and even other advice found on the internet and nothing worked. I don’t think it’s from the update tbh, I tried installed different older versions and none of them work. Thi is the link to my staging website : http://testing.laboratorstiintecognitiveclinice.ro/wp/
Could you please look into it?
