Hello taz0mcgee,
Thank you for contacting WooCommerce support.
I understand you’re unable to connect your WordPress site to your Google account, which is affecting your Merchant Center integration.
You can try accessing the connection page by visiting yoursite.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=connection-test-admin-page. From there, disconnect both Merchant Center and your Google account, then restart the onboarding process in Google for WooCommerce.
If the issue continues, check your Google Ads account for any restrictions. Please let me know how it goes.
Looking forward to your response. 🙂
Hi! Thanks for the info. The problem was that my Google account didn’t have “admin” status in Google Ads. After getting theses permissions from my org I was able to set up the connection normally. So the connection issue is resolved.
My only complaint is that the generic error I was getting (from the first screenshot in my original post) was not useful. “Please try again later”. That was never going to solve the issue.
Anyway, thanks again.
Hi @taz0mcgee,
I’m glad to hear the issue has been resolved and your account is now connected. Regarding the error message, it appears to have been triggered by the earlier connection attempt. Could you confirm if you’re still seeing that error notice?
Correct, it was from the earlier attempts. It’s no longer an issue.
I was simply saying that the error “please try later.” did not help with solving this.
Hi @taz0mcgee ,
Thanks so much for reaching out. I know running into a vague error like this can be frustrating, especially when it’s not immediately clear what’s going wrong.
From what you’ve discovered, it looks like your Google account didn’t have admin access—so that was likely the main reason the connection failed in your case. That said, this particular error can also be caused by a few other things, such as security or firewall plugins that block external requests, server restrictions, or misconfigured API settings. Because of that range of potential causes, the plugin isn’t always able to return a more detailed or specific error message.
I totally understand how helpful it would be to have clearer, more informative error handling built into the system. And you’re absolutely right—that would make troubleshooting much easier. While this isn’t something the plugin can currently do due to the way the errors are triggered, the development team is always open to feedback and improvement ideas.
If you’d like, you can open a issue on the official GitHub page here: WooCommerce Google Listings & Ads – Issues. That way, the developers can review it as a possible enhancement in future updates.
I hope this helps clear things up a bit!
