    Hi,

I have been using the Wordfence 2FA on my website for a couple of years now, but after redesigning my website and deleting all existing plugins, including Wordfence, the 2FA doesn’t work after adding back and activating the plugin, and requested/add a new free license, I am getting this error after entering the codes from the Google authenticator to activate it.

    Error Activating 2FA

The code provided does not match the expected value. Please verify that the time on your authenticator device is correct and that this server’s time is correct.

I’ve deactivated/reactivated it many times by selecting ‘Delete Login Security tables and 2FA codes, but keep Wordfence tables and data.’ But to no avail. I’ve also ensured the server time and time on my WP settings match the server time, as shown below. I deleted my website on the authenticator and scanned the QR code many times, I did sync up the time on my Google Authenticator app as well. I am stuck and don’t know how to fix this problem on my site.

    Server Time: 2023-07-05 17:44:44 UTC (2023-07-05 13:44:44 America/New_York)
    Browser Time: Wed, 05 Jul 2023 17:44:45 GMT (Wed Jul 05 2023 13:44:45 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time))
    Corrected Time (NTP): 2023-07-05 17:44:44 UTC (2023-07-05 13:44:44 America/New_York)

    Thanks.

Hi @webgigabyte, thanks for your detailed message about this.

I know this might seem strange, but does another authenticator app to your default choice work? I have seen cases where Google Authenticator (for example) won’t activate the exact same codes that Authy or another will. I understand you’ve synchronized the time there, but this test should just rule the codes being presented on your site in or out as the root cause.

    Thanks,
    Peter.

    Hi Peter,

Thanks for your prompt reply. I tried using Authy, and it’s now working. Thanks again.
