I updated Redirection on 25th March. I also updated the Redirection database by clicking on the prompt “Redirection’s database needs to be updated – click to update.” After this, I could log in to my website but could not perform any function and even could not open the site dashboard or go to the plugins page. I got a Fatal error about Call to undefined function wp_get_current_user() in the capabilities.php file on line 634.

I eventually had to restore my earlier site backup and get the site working. I zeroed down on Redirection as responsible for this issue after activating one plugin at a time. The last thing that remained to redo was updating the Redirection database, which I haven’t done and left as it is now.

Could you please sort out this issue if possible. Thanks.

Can you explain more about your setup? This isn’t an error I’ve seen reported before and it’s likely that there is something special about your setup.

Thanks for your response. Please let me know what do you need to know or mean by my setup. I also want to know if I retry to update the redirection database, is there any way to reload its backup via FTP to get the site working again, in case if the same issue occurs again on updating it (because previously I was not able to access my WordPress dashboard or even the plugins page after the redirection database update). Thanks.

As I say this isn’t something I’ve seen before, so without knowing more about your setup it’s hard to say. I don’t think it’s particularly related to the database upgrade as that changes your database, not your code.

You can always disable any plugin by renaming the plugin directory – it’s not necessary to use a backup.

Do you have an error log? Does it show any more details? What version of PHP, WordPress, and the plugin are you using?
