    Hello everyone, we used to use your plugin in the past. On a new server environment, however, we then switched to a different cache plugin.

    On the new system, when I try to log in to the backend, I get the following error instead of the login:

    Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function wp_cache_get() in /var/www/wordpress/wp-includes/option.php:599 Stack trace: #0 /var/www/wordpress/wp-includes/option.php(164): wp_load_alloptions() #1 /var/www/wordpress/wp-includes/functions.php(2424): get_option(‘siteurl’) #2 /var/www/wordpress/wp-includes/functions.php(2366): _wp_upload_dir(NULL) #3 /var/www/wordpress/wp-content/fatal-error-handler.php(208): wp_upload_dir() #4 /var/www/wordpress/wp-content/fatal-error-handler.php(141): WPIDE_Error_Handler::backupDir() #5 /var/www/wordpress/wp-content/fatal-error-handler.php(55): WPIDE_Error_Handler::errorHandler(-1, ‘Call to undefin…’, ‘/var/www/wordpr…’, 28) #6 [internal function]: WPIDE_Error_Handler::exceptionHandler(Object(Error)) #7 {main} thrown in /var/www/wordpress/wp-includes/option.php on line 599

    Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function wp_cache_get() in /var/www/wordpress/wp-includes/option.php:599 Stack trace: #0 /var/www/wordpress/wp-includes/option.php(164): wp_load_alloptions() #1 /var/www/wordpress/wp-includes/functions.php(2424): get_option(‘siteurl’) #2 /var/www/wordpress/wp-includes/functions.php(2366): _wp_upload_dir(NULL) #3 /var/www/wordpress/wp-content/fatal-error-handler.php(208): wp_upload_dir() #4 /var/www/wordpress/wp-content/fatal-error-handler.php(141): WPIDE_Error_Handler::backupDir() #5 /var/www/wordpress/wp-content/fatal-error-handler.php(49): WPIDE_Error_Handler::errorHandler(1, ‘Uncaught Error:…’, ‘/var/www/wordpr…’, 599) #6 [internal function]: WPIDE_Error_Handler::shutdownHandler() #7 {main} thrown in /var/www/wordpress/wp-includes/option.php on line 599

    After a lot of fiddling around and reinstalling your plugin, the error is gone again and I can log in successfully. If I deactivate the plugin, I can still access the backend without any problems. However, if I delete the plugin, I get the same error again.

    Do you have any tips on what I can do?

    Thanks for your help
    Niko

    Hello @moins

    Thank you for reaching out and I am happy to help!
    Well, it’s like the universe is trying to tell you that switching from the superior W3 Total cache to any other caching solution is a mistake! 🙂

    All jokes aside, this is not specifically related to the W3 Total Cache, instead it’s related to some restrictions in your environment.

    Is this a multisite environment and if so are you trying to remove the W3 Total Cache from the main website or any sub-sites?

    Thanks!

    Thanks for your quick feedback (:

    Haha almost seems like you’re right 😀

    It is a simple page. Azure app service for one WordPress instance.

    I can now reproduce the problem on three different test systems.

    Windows VM Server
    Azure Ubuntu App Service
    Azure Windows App Service

    I find it strange because the problem is triggered as soon as the W3 Cache plugin is uninstalled and it works again as soon as the plugin is present.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hey @moins

    Thank you for your feedback.
    I was close, it’s Azure. W3 Total Cache is a default plugin in Azure environments.

    I woluld check with yoru hosting provider if this can be done. Alternatively, you can disable the plugin, delete the drop-ins and the /cache/ folder.
    Is there any specific reason you wish to remove the W3TC and use some other caching solution?
    Thanks!

    Ahh darn, I see…

    To be honest, I had better experiences with another plugin. For me, the handling and the effect were better there.

    Many thanks for the help and clarification!

    I’ll see how I can continue with it

    Hey @moins

    I appreciate the feedback!
    As you can see you can always ask any questions regarding the configuration of the W3 Total Cache here or via the plugin.
    W3 Total Cache is a complete optimization solution and yes, it is bulky, however, it offers the most freedom to the users to configure the plugin according to their needs.

    I’ll be happy to help in any way once you come back to W3TC 🙂

    Thank you again!
