Hello @pollarddaniel8, thanks for opening a support topic with us. I’d be happy to look into this further as we have had a couple of similar reports to this recently. Please can I first ask you to share the following:
- Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.
- When checking the Site Kit dashboard from a Chrome browser incognito window does the same occur? If so, please share any browser console errors that appear. This can help indicate a browser or caching related block.
- Do you encounter the same when trying to access your site and Site Kit via a different browser to the default one you are using?
Let me know if you have any questions about the above. Once you have shared the information I can help suggest some further steps after reviewing everything.
I have sent the above to you via the google form provided,
Many thanks Daniel
Many thanks for sharing the additional insights @pollarddaniel8, very useful. Given some of the console errors that appear may related to something blocking Analytics related requests, please share the following:
- Can you confirm the same issue does arise when checking the Site Kit dashboard from a different browser? This will help indicate a browser related block.
- Does the same occur if you attempt Site Kit setup and view the dashboard from this disposable WordPress site? This will help indicate a possible host related issue if all works fine from here, while also ruling out local or browser related issues.
- Do you have any other sites on the same hosting platform from which you can check Site Kit functionality? Alternatively, are you aware of any host related firewall that you may have enabled, or changes at Cloudflare level?
Let me know if you have any questions with the above.
I’ve checked from another browser and the problem still happens. Also checked from another device, with the same result I have just updated another two sites on different hosts, and all is working fine.
I’ve not changed any firewall settings or cloudflare
So the problem seams to be isolated to my site hosted by GoDaddy only
Appreciate the quick update @pollarddaniel8, many thanks.
As an additional check, can you uninstall and reinstall the plugin in full before checking the Site Kit dashboard once more? There’s no need to reset or disconnect your Google account from Site Kit first. I ask as maybe something went wrong with a plugin update on this particular site.
In addition, so you have any other WordPress sites on the same hosting plan? If not, it may be possible to quickly spin up another site using their WordPress installer, using a subdomain or even a subdirectory. This can be uninstalled afterwards, after checking does Site Kit work as expected with with Google Analytics included in the set up process.
Let me know if you have any questions with the suggestions above. If the same occurs on another WordPress site from the same plan, we can look at any firewall or security feature that may be impacting Site Kit reporting, possibly impacting mainly Google Analytics reporting.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled with the same result. I have two additional sites with Different hosts that are both working fine
Thanks for the update @pollarddaniel8. As an additional check, which may provide further insights into any server related block, do you see any invalid XHR responses when visiting the Site Kit dashboard? If so please share them using the same form previously used, and not publicly here in the forums. It would also be great to know of the exact browser console errors that appear if you can share this.
If preferred, you can share a recording of these responses, which can also be used to demonstrate what you see from the settings page, and also the main WordPress dashboard page where there is a Site Kit widget which typically appears. I can then review this further with the team. You can use a service such as Imgur or Jumpshare to share a recording. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing this additional information. While you were doing so, I checked a GoDaddy hosted site and in my case I don’t encounter the same but we will keep investigating. While reviewing this, if you’re happy to continue troubleshooting, there are a couple of actions which you may wish to perform. These include the below:
- Checking does the same occur if you reset Site Kit on this site (Tools > Available Tools > Reset Site Kit). After doing so, you can check do any errors appear after setting up Site Kit without Google Analytics. If not, please attempt to connect the Google Analytics module manually.
- As I noticed some additional .htaccess rules, can you visit your permalinks page (Settings > Permalinks) and press the “Save change” button? This will recreate a fresh .htaccess file for you. I ask as rules applied at .htaccess level can impact Site Kit behavior.
- Does the same occur if you temporarily pause Cloudflare on your site, before reloading the Site Kit dashboard once more?
At this time, we do suspect a block of some Google Analytics requests, but hopefully the above will help indicate more. Rest assured that data for Google Analytics and other Google services is still being collected for your site. I’ll share the above information with the team and revert back to you here. Please do let me know of the above checks should you have time to review.
i reset site kit as suggested, this worked untill I signed in to my account . Got to
Congratulations!
You successfully set up Site Kit. You can now see how your site appears in Search, how many visitors you got from Search, your popular pages, and how people found them from Search
then it went back to the same error after clicking next
This was without the Google Analytics option selected
