ERROR AFTER UPDATING

I just went through the update process a few times, and it looks like it went through smoothly on our end. It looks like the update might hang for a minute, probably because it is deleting a large number of files during the upgrade, but it should go through fine.

If you run into an error where your site is stuck in maintanence mode take a look at http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-fix-briefly-unavailable-for-scheduled-maintenance-error-in-wordpress/ for some help.

If you run into any errors, it could be due to a caching plugin you have running or some other browser cache. Try and empty your site/browser cache and refresh the page a few times.

Now that you post the error here it looks like that is a general PHP error. That generally occurs when your site is running a PHP version that is older than PHP 5.6.

PHP 5.6 is no longer active development, and will only be receiving security updates.

I would recommend upgrading to at least PHP 5.6 to ensure that the error is resolved. Although there is a check that you are running at least 5.6.0 in place, I’m not sure why this tracking class would be loading for you.

The error is due to the shorthand array syntax [] instead of array() that is supported by PHP 5.6 or later.

Thank you for confirming that upgrading to 5.6 or later resolved the issue. At this point it would be a good idea to upgrade to 5.6 or later (preferably 7.0) for security reasons.
