• This just started, and I’m not using a new plugin so I don’t know what’s going on.

I can get to my dashboard fine, and it appears that I can look at ANY tab EXCEPT “Plugins” – When I click on the plugin tab I get the standard database error message:

    “Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.”

=== When this happens, I have to close that browser tab, and come back to the dashboard to get it to work again. It will again work fine unless I click on the Plugins tab.

  • What happens if you delete all the plugins in your wp-content/plugins folder?

Make a backup of that folder first–then delete the contents of that folder. Then see if you can access that tab in your Admin panels.

If so, then add the plugins back, one-by-one, to see if one of them is causing the problem.

Okay, this seems to be working. I’m still a bit confused but I guess I will wait to see what happens:

I’m now back to running all the same plugins running as before, and it seems to be fine (as before).

There was some odd code appearing on my front page, btw, which is why I was going to look at my plugins to start with. It seemed to just be there out of the blue.

Basically, my e-mail address was suddenly appearing in the upper left corner of the main index page, which I hadn’t noticed before.

I looked at the source code in my browser and there appeared to be some javascript code in the header which must have been the source of my email address because it didn’t actually appear in the source anywhere else…

In my plugins directory, I had a couple of e-mail encoders I had used in the past: wp-email-encoder and enkoder – BUT NEITHER of these plugins were activated as I have been using the WSR Contact form for quite a while now.

The javascript in the header, though, told me that one of them was working inside WP anyway.

How can a plugin activate itself?

I didn’t put these back into my plugin directory so now there should be no way they will self-activate…
