    Hi there!

My site was down this morning due to an error establishing a database connection.
After contacting our host to get to the root of the cause, it seems to have been linked adrotate. Specifically, it looks like ad tracking.
At that moment, nearly 500 queries appearing to be related to the plugin [adrotate are what were causing this database connection issue.
After disabling the plugin, our host informed us it may take a bit of time for the leftover queries to complete. However, it does seem to help off the bat and we should no longer experience a database connection error.

Could be, but without more information I can’t say much useful about anything.
Was it actually AdRotate? Which queries were taking too much time?
Why can’t your hosting provider deal with traffic spikes (assuming it worked fine for some time before today).

In most cases these kinds of things are down to inadequate hosting.

    Yes, it was adrotate.
I left the plugin disabled over the weekend and the sites ran fine.
I reactivate adrotate this week and the problems have started again.

The issues have been building for months, since we went multisite/redesigned and updated our sites. I’ve used AdRotate for years very happily, so naturally I removed other plugins that seemed to interfere, but the problems I have now seem to keep growing and I’m at a place where I am unsure what to do.

Last year I disabled most of our dynamic ads on our sites with the heaviest traffic, and that helped for months. Now this new problem arises. The queries build, all reading like “Sending data | SELECT timer FROM `xxmysitexx_adrotate_tracker”, until the sites go down.
