Error establishing a database connection

    The strange part is that the site is not completely down. If I refresh or wait a short time, it often comes back. So it does not look like the database credentials are permanently wrong.

    At first, I thought this was a hosting/server resource issue. However:

    • This server did not have this issue before.
    • I removed all other domains/sites from the hosting account to reduce load.
    • I checked Resource Usage in cPanel, and the current CPU, memory, I/O, entry processes, and other limits look normal.
    • The issue still appears occasionally when working in wp-admin.
    • The database is very small, so this does not look like a large database problem.

    Since the error “Error establishing a database connection” appears intermittently and the site loads again after a refresh, this usually points to a temporary database connectivity issue rather than incorrect credentials.

    Based on what you’ve described, the most likely causes are temporary drops in the database connection or server-level limits being reached for a short time.

    To help narrow this down, could you please check the following with your hosting provider:

    • Review MySQL/MariaDB error logs around the time the issue occurs
    • Confirm whether max database connections are being reached
    • Check if there are any database restarts or crashes

    Additionally, it would help if you could:

    • Check whether the issue happens at specific times (for example, during scheduled tasks or cron jobs)
    • Temporarily disable LiteSpeed Cache and see if the issue still occurs
    • Review your server/PHP error logs for any related database errors

    Since the issue is intermittent, it is most often related to the hosting environment rather than WooCommerce itself.
