• Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

I checked the username and password and database name but nothing was wrong about them….
    what should i do?

i _am_ the host: it’s a caged server, it’s running many apps, including another insulated wp instance; and i have many other wp instances running on other hosts – dedicated and otherwise.

That fix is obviously very particular to your setup and cari.net and haphazardly changing the install folder will break just about any other site.

Sorry, but it didn’t affect anything else on the entire server. The other WP instances are fine.

And it wasn’t ‘haphazard’. I can send reams of detail troubleshooting, if anyone’s interested.

It just worked. Just suggesting it as an alternative for that 1% that won’t fit the standard mold of answers.
