Error establishing a database connection

I am setting up a wordpress website using Xampp for a department at my college, and I got to the point where you change the “wp-config.php” file with the database name, user,password, and now that I have it tells me that I am having an Error establishing a database connection. I double and triple checked my wp-config file and I am just not sure what I am doing wrong.
