    Hi Guys,

Any ideas how to get pass the “error establishing a database connection” ? I am exhausted and don’t understand what I am doing wrong.

I have tripled checked everything and have also entered all details manually into the wp-config.php but every-time I go to the /wp-admin screen I get prompted with setting up the database and then when I enter the details it give me the “error establishing a database connection.

I have made new databases, checked all users permissions , re-uploaded WordPress but every time I can’t seem to get the database to connect…..

Any help or ideas would be really appreciated.

    Steve

  • Just some pointers…

Is this a new installation, or an existing website that started throughout up this error all of a sudden?

If this is a new installation, and if you’re using a shared hosting service, have you confirmed the database host URL as well? (Not all hosts use the default “localhost”)

If it’s an existing website, chances are the database may be corrupted or the database server may not be responding (assuming if all the credentials are indeed correct).

Are you able to make a test database connection outside of WordPress with the same credentials?

Ah, all sorted now … had to put in the database host URL instead of leaving it “local host”

    cheers

I’m glad you got this sorted out.

If you have a second to spare, kindly make this post as RESOLVED.

    Thank you.
