error establishing a database connection (local host)

    Hi

    I have been trialling WordPress on a local host (before setting it up on a web hos using DeskTop Server (after finding it impossible to work through the Webmatrix method.

    I initially had it running, but after restarting the laptop came up with the “error establishing a database connection” problem.

    I have set the McAfee firewall to open port 3306.
    I have reset passwords through both wp-config.php and using MySQL workbench so that they definitely match.

    I also tried using DeskTop Server to create a new local site – and got the message during installation that it”failed to connect to database”.

    Please could you suggest a solution.
