error establishing database connection

    Suddenly WordPress can’t find my database.

    The config info is correct and the database is not down. I know because Moveable Type is in the same database and that works fine.

    I know that my Web host recently changed the PHP version on the server, and POST data is no longer extracted automatically, but this has nothing to do with POST data. What’s wrong here?

    I tried upgrading to the most recent version of WordPress, but it still doesn’t work.

    FYI… My Web site is hosted on a Linux server running Apache, with PHP 4.4.0 and MySQL 4.0.25.

    Well that makes no darn sense. Can you use phpMyAdmin to access your MySQL database? And confirmed that you’ve got the right $table_prefix value in wp-config.php?

    Yes, I can access the database with no problem in phpMyAdmin, and the prefix is correct. WordPress used to work just fine with these same configuation files, and then just stopped – not sure when, but I think when my Web host upgraded to PHP 4.4.0.

    I’m looking at another b2 branch now – b2evolution. Also nucleus looks good. They both support multi-blog/multi-user, which I need for my new application.

    I would like to get WordPress back up on my other Web site, though, because there’s content in it that I can’t access.

    Other possibilities:
    User doesn’t have correct database rights. At a minimum you need these rights:select, insert, update, delete, create, index, alter and drop

    When host provider installed PHP 4.4 MySQL wasn’t enabled (or there’s a problem with other scripts that host didn’t update with PHP 4.4 install)
