when I went to update my blog this morning WP can’t find it. I got the following message:

    Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

    1. I updated the blog last night and it was fine,
    2. I haven’t changed the wp-config file at all, and
    3. I can see all my files on my host using cpanel or ftp.

I am *really* not sure what to do next! any suggestions to troubleshoot?

also – I have been meaning to upgrade. I’ve got 2.0.4 in cpanel, fantastico says there is no wp currently installed. should I just backup my database, delete everything, use fantastico to install wp again, and restore my database? will that solve my problem or is it a crazy suggestion?

well, it seems to have fixed itself. I have no idea what the issue could be but I’m much more motivated to upgrade to 2.3 now, so at least I’ll have that checked off of my list of stuff that might be going wrong.

Yeah, mine comes and goes, thats why im baffled
