Well that didn’t work. So, if that’s all you’ve got to add for “help”, I’ll just find a new plugin.

…same here: since its update from 2.2.2 to 2.2.3 this error occurs.

with 2.2.2 everything works with all other plugins installed.
with 2.2.3, same plugins: “Error Invalid backend response. Data is not JSON.”

other specs:
wordpress 4.4.2, ithemes security pro, backup buddy, ninja forms
max_upload_size: 200m

Exactly the same problem, everything perfect, updated only this plugin 15 mins ago and now this error. Edit: See details below. Have tried deactivating, removing and reinstalling, same problem.
