Instagram has been suffering outages over the weekend (http://downdetector.com/status/instagram) so my first suggestion would be to be patient and try again once the site stabilises.
If your still seeing issues after another 24 hours then please post your username here and I will check your profile page make sure it is publicly accessible and looks as I expect to (no new HTML/JS changes on profiles).
I have just checked my local copy and found it to be working so fingers crossed it is just glitches at the Instagram end.

my insta username is @j_shelf_life
the person that helped set up my blog did change the column widths in the theme – would that have anything to do with it?

If you remove the @ from your username within the widget settings you will solve the issue. You will notice that the “follow us” text does not link to your profile either.
