I’ve moved a copy of the original site FROM https://dogwoodbotanical.com/ TO the subdomain: https://legacy.dogwoodbotanical.com/ … but the live subdomain is just a white screen with the message “Under maintenance. The site will be available soon.”

With Duplicator, I did the 2 step method because the file size was too large for the account, 1.8 GB. Then I uploaded all of the original site files as a zip via cpanel, and extracted them. Then built a duplicator package with just the database. I renamed the .wpconfig file on the new subdomain. I had already created a new database for the subdomain on the hosting service at OVH – I entered the new database name, username and password in duplicator. at Step 2, I checked the database connection and it passed. I went through all of the steps with no error messages. In cpanel, the new database appears to have the exact number of tables as the original database when viewing with PHPMyAdmin.

I tried disabling all plugins, but that made no difference to the error message. I also updated the WordPress version to 5.8 just in case…

Help! I don’t know what else to try. Are there any other common problems that might cause the site to not display? I have no problem logging in to wp-admin for the new subdomain site, and the Duplicator plugin files auto delete appears to have run properly. All of the files and database tables appear to be there. any advice much appreciated! thank you!

  • Hey @melanyh

Thanks for the feedback! I don’t see the message “the message “Under maintenance. The site will be available soon.” anymore, just a hello page. Is this issue resolved, if not it sounds like you might still need to set what you want for the front page?

If not and you are still having issues and if you would like to submit a support ticket for this issue we can have a closer look at your setup. Please provide a link to this forum thread when submitting the ticket.

    Cheers~

    hi @corylamleorg
Yes, I decided to delete the subdomain legacy.dogwoodbotanical.com wordpress installation and start over with a new installation. Now I’m in the process of uploading a full .wpress copy of the live site dogwoodbotanical.com to the subdomain. BUT I just read that if two installations use the same database name on the same host, it won’t work. I guess that’s what’s going to happen since the file I’m uploading is a copy? My head hurts …. I guess I’ll let it run and see what happens.

However, last time I DID create a new database and connected it via the Duplicator plugin and that didn’t work either. Argghghgh

if you do read this and have any suggestions I’d really appreciate it. thanks.

Actually the thought of what might happen with two installations using the same database name on the same host scared me so I’ve stopped the upload. back to the drawing board.

    Hey @melanyh,

That is correct while two separate WordPress sites can share a database, in 99% of most cases that is not going to be the desired/needed outcome. You will want to have a separate database per site.

The quick start guide is a good place to get started if you have never done this process before: https://snapcreek.com/duplicator/docs/quick-start/

    Hope that helps~
