I launched my giveaway today, but when people try to enter their email address to enter the giveaway they receive error messages. So far it is either action not available or enable javascript and cookies. Please advise. Thank you.

Are you using a caching plugin? If so, have you tried clearing the cache?

P.S. Are you maybe using the plugin “WP Spamshield”? It seems that is a “popular” error on that plugin.

Hi. No am not using a caching plugin. Yes I am using WP Spamshield. Should I deactivate it?

    Thread Starter butterflykissescraftdesigns17

    (@butterflykissescraftdesigns17)

Ok I think I figured it out. Under Spamshield setting, I check the box for anti-spam on misc. forms. I was able to enter an email and received the confirmation email I was entered in the drawing. Thanks Igor!!

Great thing! You might want to consider to use Google ReCaptcha that is provided with Simple Giveaways, so you’re sure that it will block spammers on the giveaway.

Thank you for letting me know your solution! πŸ™‚

NP! Also when I use the share & collect entries, the number of entries doesn’t change. Does that update later?

    Plugin Author Igor Benic

    (@ibenic)

The entries will increase as others subscribe from the share link. That way, we are making sure that the winner will be actually the one who has given you the most subscribers πŸ™‚

    Ok got it! Thanks again!!

    Hi @butterflykissescraftdesigns17 and @ibenic,

Perhaps I can help. πŸ™‚ WP-SpamShield provides anti-spam for third party forms and plugins and provides top notch protection without CAPTCHAs, as website visitors tend to really dislike those. (And CAPTCHAs only stop [some] robots, not human spammers.)

Under Spamshield setting, I check the box for anti-spam on misc. forms.

There there shouldn’t be any need to deactivate the anti-spam for miscellaneous forms. (If you do, that really only should be used as a temporary workaround, as that feature protects all your contact forms, and protects your site from many XML-RPC based attacks, such as brute force amplification attacks and Pingback based DDoS attacks.)

In the case of that particular error, there might be a conflict, and its usually a quick fix. Please see Troubleshooting Guide Step 9. It’s rare to see that issue persist after a trip through the Troubleshooting Guide, but if you have any further issues, you can submit a support request. We’ll help you fix any issues in no time. πŸ™‚

@ibenic: I’d suggest running some tests with your plugin and WP-SpamShield active. At this point, there aren’t too many plugins that conflict. We’ve done a lot of compatibility testing, and work hard to make sure things work smoothly with all plugins. If you have any issues come up, we have a compatibility guide for other developers that you’ll probably find helpful. If you have any questions, there is a contact form at the bottom of that page you can use to contact us, and we’ll be happy to help.

Hi Steven, thank you very much for such a nice post. I’ll check it out.

I did test it with a clean WordPress install with my plugin and yours. Everything worked out fine and I couldn’t reproduce the mentioned error.

I am still trying to get that error on my own test site so I can proceed and find what’s wrong and how to fix it.

So sorry but now I am getting “Your secret parameter is invalid or malformed”. I do have the Google recatcha on.

    (@ibenic)

That may be if the secret key is wrongly copied. Could you double check that both secret & public key are correctly saved?

I have tried it out on my test site and it worked out fine.
