[email protected] is not a site url. Is this a wordpress.com site or a self-hosted WordPress install?
doah.. thebigboard0710.wordpress.com
I am trying to move from WP.com hosted to self hosted install. I have WP installed. the transfer is problematic. Per errors messages above.
Does that make sense?
Sorry about that rogue @ symbol!
Yes I have. and I have as I mentioned up thread a WP ‘expert’ assisting. He is the one with the error popping up.
There are 11-12k posts across 2.5 yrs.
He suggested it might be the media library /repository (830Mb)?
How large is your export file?
12Mb.
Per the guide I had requested the hosting provider to make the file limit higher.
Which they did do. When I first tried doing this solo I got a ‘file is empty error’.
The consult is able to get 16 posts across before the transfer stops.
I think you need to change “consultants”. π
That export file is too large to be imported in a single step. The server will time out before the import is complete. The file needs to be broken down into smaller chunks – ideally only 1M each.
See http://www.gbmini.net/wp/2008/11/splitting_wordpress_export_import_file/
Thanks for the tip, I’ll pop him the link. Cheers.
I think you mean in the end this python script yes?
Why is this not more prominent on WP? OR a core tool. Seems pretty important?

Either file spitter should work.
Why is this not more prominent on WP? OR a core tool.
Because this splitting needs to take place on your own computer – not in a CMS.
