Error when Activating Theme No Sidebar changes…
-
Hey guys, I’m running into an error that I’m trying to work through.
I run a site with WPmu 2.9.2 + BP 1.2.4
When I try to activate any themes on my sub-domain blogs
I get an error message and no ability to activate themes.I can actually assign the theme through the ‘Edit’ blog page.
But am still not able to get the widget areas to actually show the widgets on the site.I’ve been through issues before with plugins not working on WPmu and causing wacky issues.
Even though all of my plugins are Buddypress related,
I have activated these plugins lately which may be issues…VoucherPress + Login to view all
The error messages really started when trying to change some options
available through the WPmu Menus plugin. (However, this does not seem to be an issue now.)Please let me know if you have any ideas on how I could resolve this.
Or if there are any files I could overwrite (restore) from the trac.
Thanks in advance for your good replies and assistance.

If you’re still on mu, start making plans to upgrade. Any newer plugins you;ve added may not work on older versions.
Start checking your error logs.
When I try to activate any themes on my sub-domain blogs
I get an error message and no ability to activate themes. What, exactly, is the error message?
Andrea_r, thanks so much for your good response.
We are working on our upgrade as we speak.
On this older install, we have actually been holding out on upgrading any plugins and trying very much not to install any plugins meant for WP 3.0+.
Since the last post, I have tried to delete any questionable and unused plugins (though still holding on to plugins in use).
But I’m still getting this error message when activating themes…
‘Your attempt to switch to this theme: βclassicβ has failed.
Please try again.’

The latest error log messages I have found are…
[19-May-2010 08:27:06] PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library ‘/usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20060613/imagick.so‘ – /usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20060613/imagick.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0
[19-May-2010 08:27:06] PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library ‘/usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20060613/tidy.so‘ – /usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20060613/tidy.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0
I wonder if this is a database / directory issue?
Or if there are any script fixes that can be applied.
Please let me know any ideas.
Thanks again for your good time and assist.

Those are definitely errors relating to how php is set up on the server.
If you go to edit the site details you can manually change both template & stylesheet to classic. will it save & switch then?
Yes, absolutely.
In edit details we’re able to manually change both template & stylesheet – and that works on changing the theme.
But still, the widget areas do not actually hold any changes on the site.
I can ask our hosting guys to look into the php set up.
Is there anything I can do to get the widget areas working?
Or correct the set up through the dashboard, settings, or cPanel to get things firing properly.
Thanks so much for your great assistance.

How so? When you drag widgets, they don’t show up? or the widgets don’t save settings?
This sounds more like plugin interference.
Can we get a link to your site?
In the dashboard area, widgets can be dragged and set in the sidebar,
but these widgets don’t actually appear on the site. Here are the links to the sites…
The main site works fine…
An old blog (unchanged) works fine…
A newly created blog is where the widgets are not showing up…

I contacted the hosting service, and they said the way php is set up is actually a security measure and the errors should not be a problem.
This could very well be a plugin issue.
I’ve tried to delete plugins I think may be issues,
but what’s a good way to tell which one exactly. Also wondering about any script patches / fixes from the trac
because I have done that before with some luck. However the old ones I have on hand haven’t worked yet.
(pluggable.php, functions.php, wp-functions.php)Please let me know of any good ideas and solutions.
Really appreciate you taking time with this.

but what’s a good way to tell which one exactly.Unless there are specific errors in the logs, you can;t. Have to turn them all off.
Also wondering about any script patches / fixes from the trac
because I have done that before with some luck. The only time that applies is if there’s a bug. This is specific to your setup. π
*goes an looks*
So you’re using the P2 theme adjusted to work with BuddyPress? Yeah. Not surprised you have issues.
Disable *all* the plugins and then check the widgets.
Oh wow, well, this may be tougher to do on a member site…
and I may have hit a roadblock on this. Most plugins are activated site-wide.
I’ll try to go through disabling what plugins I can
and see if widgets ever work.Any ways at all to find offending plugins or broken files
(to narrow down what to disable)?I remember from going through this before,
plugins not meant for mu left broken files
even after being deleted.Any ideas on repairing files?
I’ll get into this process.
Thanks so much for your good time and assistance Andrea.
