    Hi there!

I’m attempting to insert external video links into a web story to avoid uploading the sizable files to our server, but I’m running into a bit of a snag. Our Streamable Pro account provides MP4 URLs for our video clips (for example: https://streamable.com/l/jp3uwe/mp4.mp4), but these links are considered invalid by the plugin.

We are able to grab an MP4 link that is considered valid by the plugin by inspecting and viewing the page source for a video clip, but these links are set to expire (for example: https://cdn-cf-east.streamable.com/video/mp4/jp3uwe.mp4?Expires=1657396260&Signature=buobrOPI5s7QYi1xVQixvz6OHOwQStUbe3PNmTxXQxsUFIaNMrNAEe3N8z1rcrTNhlpOatBQSxnKe9rl6ZUYmRDAGSZEaZz7~BwwNJFFswdJOb-EmiMqIm6Q6AySOyeDPXMzDvxsIk-fOHAoszpVlfs6QdC4Xu0~QaVWpJ1ZrGxRUkoLeqhSdNxZxvvwRBRp4un5sbZD7Jd0J5WWyXnF~GwhXiGalyzdV24zq1KrVXarfxE3HpJdLmff7hmKOSZwmWSBEBeWTyuqI6G8pnSkGf-YsaNbhqMY-13y7AOIJMDAzJigbXn3fZDe0SgDP5IIQeeWIkCTLO3CRbIBlDhN7w__&Key-Pair-Id=APKAIEYUVEN4EVB2OKEQ).

We turned on Video Cache under the plugin’s settings to potentially allow the web story to still work after the video clips themselves expire, but that’s only a temporary solution in the event that Google updates the cache after the videos expire.

Is there another site that you’d recommend us using to create external video links instead of Streamable? Or is there something we’re doing incorrectly with that Streamable link that’s causing it be considered invalid?

    Appreciate your help, thank you!

  • Hi @dilloncp thanks for reaching out. Streamable does not set CORS headers on their videos. The video URL https://streamable.com/l/jp3uwe/mp4.mp4 redirects to your CDN (the second URL in their topic). For security reasons our CORS proxy does not allow redirects anymore which is why you are facing this issue.

To fix this, there are a few options you have:

    1. Make sure Streamable adds CORS headers to both their URLS although this doesn’t look like it is configurable.
    2. Use the second URL although as you state these do expire.
    3. Find another service/solution/CDN that supports adding CORS headers.
    4. Upload the videos to the media library. With video cache enabled the hosting/bandwidth costs shouldn’t be too high.

Hopefully one of these options works for you and please do let me know if you have any further questions I can help with.
