Hi @lowmacks,
Please go to your dashboard and navigate to User Registration & Membership > Settings > General > Login Options. Under Allow Users to Login With, select the Username or Email option. If this option is already selected and users still can’t log in using their email, there might be a conflict with another plugin.
Kindly follow the steps in this documentation to check for a plugin or theme conflict: https://docs.wpuserregistration.com/docs/how-to-check-plugin-theme-conflict/
Let me know if this helps. I’ll be happy to assist you.
Best regards!
I’m afraid this doesn’t help.
I have switched to a default theme and the problem persists.
I installed the Health Check and Troubleshooting plugin, and trouble-shot the User and Registration without enabling any other plugin. I attempted to login using an incognito window with an email address and got the same error.
Another issue I have noticed is that when I make changes to the form, even if I choose Update Form, I get a warning that my changes will be lost if I leave the page.-

Hi @lowmacks,
Thank you for the additional information.
The additional information you provided indicate there may be a conflict with a plugin. In this case, using the Health Check plugin’s troubleshooting mode may not be suitable because it only works for logged-in admin users, and you need to test the login form as a regular user.
To investigate further, please try deactivating all your plugins and check if the login feature works correctly. If the issue is resolved, reactivate the plugins one by one. After activating each plugin, test the login feature again. This process will help identify which plugin is causing the conflict.
Best regards!
You were quite correct.
Following your steps, I have established that a security plugin provided by my host is causing the conflict. On disabling that plugin, I can login using the account’s email address.
I will report this to my host. If you need to contact the host directly, please let me know.
Unfortunately, I can’t mark this as resolved until both plugins are no longer in conflict.
Best wishes,-

I have just spoken to the hoster, who is IONOS, and they have advised me to uninstall your plugin, which I am not happy about, since the amount of work, I have already committed to setting up membership forms. They don’t seem willing to sort the issue.
Hi @lowmacks,
Thank you for the update.
We respectfully disagree with the information provided by your hosting provider, as the security plugin they offer seems to be causing the issue. If the User Registration & Membership plugin is conflicting with any other plugin—including the security plugin from your host—it is our responsibility to help resolve it.
We believe it is not necessary to use the security plugin provided by your hosting company. There are several reliable and widely-used alternatives, such as Wordfence Security and Sucuri Security, which you can consider for protecting your website.
We hope this information is helpful.
Best regards!
I absolutely agree with you.
Speaking as a professional web developer, myself, (not WordPress, unfortunately), I think it’s their responsibility to fix the issue and ensure that their hosting environment is compliant with the plugins authored by other developers.
In the meantime, I am not uninstalling your plugin, I will continue to use it, and I’ll be making a complaint to Ionos.Hi @lowmacks,
Thank you for your understanding.
As the issue does not appear to be related to our end, we’ll go ahead and mark this topic as resolved for now. However, if you need further assistance, please feel free to reopen the topic at any time.
Best regards!
