Error when trying to generate XML SiteMap

    I have been struggling with this for 3 days now. Every time I try to generate my XML sitemap, I receive the following message:
    This page contains the following errors:

    error on line 2 at column 6: XML declaration allowed only at the start of the document

    I have switched to different themes without any luck. The error persists. I have disabled all the plugins (except Yoast SEO ofcourse) and still no change.
    I am aware that this could be because of a missing “?>” tag somewhere but I can’t find it. I have also checked for whitespace in my PHP files, still nothing.

    Can anyone please help or suggest anything else to try?
