    Hi,

I updated the plugin to the latest version (3.5.1) and then when testing my Contact Form (Contact Form 7) I found that when clicking in “Send message” an error message would appear and the message would not be send.

In the plugin when testing the email this error appears:
Attention! The last email your site tried to send was not sent successfully.
    Mailer: Otro SMTP
    SMTP Error: Could not authenticate.

I have the same plugin in several sites, but this error appears only in the two sites I updated the plugin.

I already tried installing a previous version, but nothing changes.

What would you think the problem would be?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi @belenberrueta,

Thanks for reaching out! This issue is not related to the WP Mail SMTP update and that is the reason you’re getting the same error on the previous versions as well.

The SMTP error generally indicates that your web server isn’t able to connect to the SMTP server. There could be a firewall between your web server and the SMTP server or something similar.

When you send a test email from WP Mail SMTP > Tools area, you should be able to see the full error. Here’s a screenshot of the option to get a full error log. This will provide you with an idea of what might be going on.

Also, you can check WP Mail SMTP -> Tools -> Debug Events section to see if there are any errors.

Then, get in touch with your hosting/email support with the full error log, and they should be able to assist you further.

    I hope this helps. Thanks!
