Error while importing demo data (Reason 406)

    Hi,

    I’m having trouble getting import demo data to work correctly. I’m using the predefined import (I’m importing it from a server (URL)) ang each time I get this error:

    An error occurred while fetching Demo Import file from the server!
    Reason: 406 – Not Acceptable.

    Can you tell me what exactly that means and how I can fix it?

    When I’m manually importing the file via the wordpress import it works ok.

    Hi,

    The xml file can’t be downloaded.

    I’m no server specialist, but something is wrong, either with the server, where the import file is located, or with the server where you have the WP installation (or this might be one and the same server for you?).

    406 error happens when the server cannot respond with the accept-header specified in the request.

    This is a very rare error and I would advise you to test it on another server.

    You can also try with this import file url: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/proteusthemes/one-click-demo-import/master/tests/data/import-files/content.xml

    It’s from the plugin github repository and it only contains one post, one page and one image. I haven’t tried to import from the url above, but I think it should work.

    Yes, it’s one and the same server for me.

    It actually worked with the file from the link you gave me. It even worked with same file, when I’ve placed it on my server. So there must be something wrong with the xml I’m exporting from wordpress.

    But I see that your file was generated with wordpress 4.4.1 – maybe something has changed with current version of wp exporter?

    Hi,

    there have been some minor changes to the WP exporter/importer, but we didn’t have any other reports of this kind of issues.

    Could you please tell me the URL of your XML file, so I can test it out tomorrow morning?

    Maybe it was an issue with my host after all – I’ve disabled mod_security option and import works fine now. Thank you for all your help and great plugin (and sorry for the trouble).
