Error with update.php when installing updates

Hi,

I get this error when I install any update: Plugins, Themes and WP updates.

(WordPress could not establish a secure connection to ww.wp.xz.cn. Please contact your server administrator.) in /home2/…/…/public_html/wp-includes/update.php on line 119

So far I tried doing this and the error still persists:

1. Deactivate all plugins and reactivate one by one.
2. Change themes and re-install all of them.
3. Re-installed WordPress 3.9.1
4. Contacted my server host. They say everything is fine on their end.

I found a few people with similar issues and I followed the advice on each page. Unfortunately the error persists.

I would really appreciate any advice.
