Following up here: we definitely see this happening in 4.8 and are trying to understand if it tracks to a bug being reported in WordPress, or whether we need to update the plugin.
In the meantime, you can continue using the shortcodes as documented. This is better documentation since the updated plugin repository seems to have broken our docs: https://github.com/Pardot/pardot-for-wordpress
