Hi @ted0815
Thanks for reaching out.
Could you try changing your Permalinks to Post Name, and check if that makes a difference?
See- https://share.getcloudapp.com/d5ugYDqZ
Hi Darian,
sure I can. But there is a warning, that changing Permalinks has huge effects to SEO because of changing all the URL.
Is ist something I can easily move back?
Hi Darian,
now i changed to “post” without saving, then back to our individual setting and saved. So Permalinks should built up new.
That doesn’t help either. And I can’t change permalinks without having much trouble with SEO. I would have to write a hundred of redirections.
Do you have another idea?

Hi @ted0815
I am not sure if I understand when you say “changed to post without saving”. Have you tried changing the permalinks to Post Name, save it, and check if that makes a difference?
If you’re uncomfortable doing this on your live site, you could try testing this first on a staging version of your live site.
Let me know how it goes.
Hi Darian, no I did not try to change to post and saved that. I don’t want to do that in the running system.
Unfortunately, I am not able to set up a sandbox at the moment.
Any other ideas?

Hi @ted0815
Thanks for your response.
If you could not create a sandbox at the moment, maybe you could consider using the WP Staging plugin to easily create one, and test the permalinks from there.
If that’s not possible, you could try searching google regarding “how to remove index.php from permalink in wordpress“. Aside from the permalink changes, there should be an option to remove index.php from your URL through .htaccess
Moreover, could I ask for a screenshot of how your permalinks is currently setup?

Hi @ted0815
I hope you are well. I wanted to follow up about the issue you encountered.
Are you still encountering the issue on your staging site after updating the permalinks?
If so, could you provide the version of the following? This will help me understand how your system is set up.
- PHP
- WordPress
- The Events Calendar
- Theme
Hi Darian,
thank you for your endurance. Yes, we still have that issue.
Versions:
PHP 8.1.14
WP 6.1.1
TEC 6.0.11
Theme <wptheme>

Hi @ted0815
Thanks for your response.
It seems like you are using PHP 8.1, which we still don’t fully support yet.
See the article here: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/k/php-8-support/.
Could you try downgrading your PHP to PHP 8.0 and check if that makes a difference? It would be best to use this version, which we fully support.
Moreover, could I ask for the name and version of the theme that you’re using? I’d like to check and replicate the issue on my end.
Also, were you able to test the suggestions on a staging site?
Let me know how it goes.
Hi Darian,
thank you for your answer.
Unfortunately, i cant downgrade php, because i dont run the server. It was updated to the youngest version some weeks ago. Maybe this might cause the problem.
Ah, and now, i find another problem. I thought, wptheme is an official theme. But after checking the details i see, this seems to be an individual theme made especially for us. Author is a web/pr agency from around here.
I will ask them, whether they have an idea.
I’ll keep you updated.

Hi @ted0815
While waiting for the theme developer’s feedback. You could also try changing your theme to Twenty Twenty theme to check if the permalink will work.
If that doesn’t help, try activating only our plugins and Twenty Twenty theme, and check if that makes a difference.
As always, please test it first on your staging site.
Let me know how it goes.
Hi Darian,
thank you very much for your help. As I said, I just started working for my institution, so i didn’t know, that our theme was an individual theme.
Your questions helped me to get on the right path.
Obviously it was an error in the theme which is fixed now.
So, problem solved. Thank you again,
Theo
