I have events published and a permalink defined, however when accessing the permalink URL I get a “not found” prompt.

Have you enabled permalinks in the WordPress settings, http://freecoast.org/?post_type=event works, so its definitely a rewrite issue!

(I like the look of the site by the way)

Where can I enable it? I went to Settings > Permalinks and don’t see anything regarding enabling them. http://i.imgur.com/OoACkKI.png

Just choose anything other than default :).
