When logged in as an admin the plugin is fantastic! However since launching, the plugin has stopped working for people who aren’t logged in.

    The following error appears:

    Event submission
    Unauthorised Access
You do not have the rights to manage this Event.

I have checked through the user permissions and everything is still set up correctly. I’m not able to deactivate all plugins as it’s a multisite install and I can’t deactive network plugins. Help!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • How are you adding the event submission form? I’m guessing you’re using a shortcode in the events list page. If that’s the case, the issue is probably that the form is behaving as if the user need permissions to edit the events on the page.

The submission form shortcode is really designed to be used on a separate page. I think if you try that it should work.

    Hiya,

I am using a shortcode yes. I tried putting it on a separate page but it still isn’t working: https://hrrn.org.uk/test-2/

I thought it might have something to do with the User Access Management plugin we have but I’ve tried disabling that and get the same issue.

It’s a problem across the entire network as I’ve tried with a different site too.

    Thanks for your help!

Can you post the shortcode you’re using?

Which permissions do you have set for that user level under Events > Settings > General > User Capabilities?

    [event_form] is the shortcode!

Under capabilities I’ve limited it to:

    publish_events
    edit_events
    publish_recurring_events
    edit_recurring_events
    publish_locations
    edit_locations
    upload_event_images

But I’ve also given the usergroup all of the options for access and that still doesn’t work!

Do you have “Allow anonymous event submissions?” set to Yes under Events > Settings > General > Event Submission Forms?

It’s possible this is a conflict caused by your theme or another plugin. To check if it is, can you test with all other plugins deactivated and while running the default WordPress theme?

    Thread Starter sasweb

    (@sasweb)

    I do yes.

As I said in my initial post I’ve deactivated what I can due to the multisite setup and it’s still not working. I can request for something to be turned off manually but it would affect the whole network so it’s not really possible to do that unless I can pinpoint the exact issue in the exact plugin. Is there anything else I can do?

It might be possible to narrow it down to a plugin that’s more likely to be causing an issue than not. Do you have any plugins running that deal with user roles or capabilities?

Only User Access Manager which I’ve already tried deactivating!

I’ve just tested a new blog with the default WP theme and same issue: https://events.blogs.sas.ac.uk/test/

This site only has the handful of non-user related plugins on it.

Can you try temporarily activating all the user capabilities for that role under Events > Settings > General > User Capabilities?

If that brings the form into view, deselect the additional options until you get to the one that stops the form showing.

Still nothing I’m afraid. Is it possibly because people browsing the website aren’t “subscribers” but more like “guests”? Allowing anonymous submissions is what we want but it seems like you can’t do anything unless you’re at lesat a subscriber?

    Thanks

It depends on the user level of the user selected for “Guest Default User” under Events > Settings > Event Submission Forms.

I’ve come to the root of the problem thanks to your message there! It seemed to be changing the guest default user # every time an event was published. I’ve reset the permissions and gone through the submission process a few times now and it seems to be sticking, so hopefully that’s sorted now…

    Thank you πŸ™‚

Great, thanks for the update. Glad it’s fixed.
