Every post update generates new comment automatically

Hi all!

This is not a huge deal actually. I’m mostly curious why my wordpress install behaves like this:

Every time I update a post, a new comment is automatically generated. It contains links that are in the post to other posts.

Does this have some purpose that I don’t understand? Is it stupid to just erase the comments/put them in the waste bin?

I’d be very grateful for any insight on this, even though as I said, it’s not a big problem. Everything is shown as it should on the site.
