I started with the EWWW Image Optimizer and then purchased the EWWW Image Optimizer Cloud plugin.

In the EWWW Image Optimizer i remember seeing more options related to how much I want to optimize the images – to what extent.

In the EWWW Image Optimizer Cloud I dont see those options. I already did one pass and optimized all the images. If I want to optimize them even more can I just force it to optimize again? And can I do that up to as many times as I want? I believe you said something about 4 times is the max and beyond that very little improvement will result.

    Thanks for your help

    Dan

You’re probably referring to the optipng and pngout levels. Re-optimizing images via the cloud will not produce additional savings, as the levels don’t correspond to passes. They represent how many trials are run to try and find the best compression options. Optipng can generally find these within 16 trials (level 2), and rarely finds significantly better parameters after that. The higher you go, the more drastically the time consumed increases and the less likely you are to find better parameters (both are exponential in nature, not linear).

On the lossy side, if you run them more than once, you WILL actually see additional filesize savings, BUT you will also start to notice more and more quality loss each time, and it is not recommended to ever perform lossy optimization more than once on an image.
