excerpt in notification

    Hi,
    Is it possible to trim the number of words in an ‘new post notification’?
    I can find the tap ‘Subscription emails’, where I can trim the content of the notification.
    In the body of the email is a variable: {content}
    This is where all the content of the new topic goes.
    BUT, is it possible to only show an excerpt of the content?
    I can not find a setting for this. I would like to only show the first 10 words…. so I ‘mildly force’ the receiver to click the link and go to the online forum…
    Hopefully someone ‘knows the trick’ 🙂

    That looks like a useful idea.

    I’ve just released version 4.9.2 which has the ability to have {excerpt} in the content.

    This will trim the content to 100 characters.

    Please test and give me feedback

    A very fast answer, and even also a solution ready for test!
    Thank you very much!

    I have now installed the new version.
    I can see that the ‘logic’ is that I change the {content} to {excerpt}.
    I have tested after update, but the ‘test string’ (This is a sample of the content excerpt) is only 38 characters…. I dont want to spam all my users with an ‘real example’ so I will wait and see for the next ‘real-life’ notification.

    Will it be possible to trim the length of the excerpt? I was hoping for “10 words”, you choose “100 characters”. Can you implement an option to fix the ‘amount of excerpt’?

    I have now had a ‘real life’ examplke….
    Unforyunately in the ‘real-life’ the excerpt shows nothing/is blank.

    As said, the test wrks flawless.
    But real life, doesnt 🙁

    Hope you have a solution….

    It was working in replies, but topics has a single character missing in the code which made it fail.

    Now corrected (hopefully) in 4.9.3 just released.

    100 characters is the bbpress default for excerpts, so easy to code to.

    Thanks for your quick actions 🙂
    I can confirm that the excerpt now is fully functional… 🙂

    One ‘funny’ thing thus:
    The excerpt end with “…”
    If I choose ‘Plain text’ the … becomes …
    Choosing HTML shows correct …
    (But scrabe all other formatting (bold, italic etc)
